Chameleon Project- By Iconfactory Team to Provide iOS Frameworks for Mac OS X

The premiere Mac development house Iconfactory team has introduced this open source framework named as Chameleon to provide apps designed for iOS work in the world of Mac. According to the Craig Hockenberry a developer of Iconfactory, while creating the Mac version of Twitterific, the team developed this new open source for iOS to run on Mac OS X as an easier porting path.

In fact most of the designs or work came from the tools which are built to handle Iconfactory’s own apps, but the team is allowing other developers those are interested in reusing iOS code for Mac OS apps, provided with the code.

In the project page, it can be noticed (admitted by Iconfactory) that Apple may work exactly on the same kind of solution and they may be told for shutting the project down by Apple. But Iconfactory told that if Apple may do so, they will, whereas for users this project will benefit more by allowing them to feel the experience of iOS on Mac OS X.

At last (but not the least), I will just give you hint that the project is far from done. In this lieu Iconfactory admits that the project is just a toolkit for their own apps which has lots of ways that the documentation doesn’t cover. They are working hard on this and also needing the helps by accepting donations, and interested developers contributions as well.
